Test Prep Tutor

I have spent much of my academic life exploring different ways of understanding complex systems, from equations and physical laws to the structure of the brain and patterns in behavior. I earned bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics, Physics, and Neuroscience at Arizona State University, and I am now pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Computational Neuroscience at Brown University, where I study how simple interactions can produce complex behavior in neural circuits and animal societies. My interest in language has developed alongside my interest in science. I took extensive coursework in linguistics and nearly completed a minor, and I have enjoyed studying languages ranging from Russian to Egyptian hieroglyphs. That background shapes how I approach SAT Reading and Writing. I like helping students see the logic behind grammar rules, understand how passages are structured, and use evidence to work through answer choices. Throughout my academic journey, one of the most rewarding experiences has been helping others learn. I enjoy finding the explanation that makes a difficult idea click for a particular student. Whether we are working through calculus, building intuition for physics, reviewing biology, or preparing for the SAT, I try to make the material feel less intimidating and more approachable. My goal is not just to help students reach the right answer, but to help them understand how to get there on their own. For SAT preparation, I focus on both content and strategy. In math, I help students strengthen foundational skills and recognize efficient ways to approach unfamiliar problems. In Reading and Writing, I emphasize careful reading, grammar, and learning to distinguish between an answer that sounds reasonable and one that is actually supported. I also work with students on pacing and test-day confidence, since knowing the material is only part of performing well. I particularly enjoy one-on-one tutoring because it gives me the chance to understand how each student thinks. Every student has different strengths, and often a small change in explanation can make a subject feel much more manageable. Watching students move from frustration to confidence is the most rewarding part of tutoring for me. I believe students improve most when they feel comfortable asking questions and are given the tools to become independent learners. Outside of academics, I enjoy teaching at science outreach events and reading philosophy. I also spend my time learning languages, playing ultimate frisbee, and watching soccer. I try to bring the same curiosity and patience to tutoring that have shaped my own education, and I hope to help students find some genuine satisfaction in subjects that once felt difficult.
