Test Prep Tutor

When I myself was a student, I was engrossed in my English and history classes and knew that the skills I'd gain from them would apply to my daily life. As an educator, I know that I'm lucky to teach these very same subjects. Today's students are savvy enough to know whether their instructors are simply going through the motions or genuinely see value in the subjects they teach, and my students sense the importance I place on reading and writing skills. My training in these areas began during my time at Barnard College, one of the most rigorous liberal arts schools in the U.S. After taking and enjoying classes in the education department, I graduated and became commited to becoming an educator. Over the course of my career, I've worked with around 300 students, and I've logged more than 3,500 hours of instructing students. I specialize in teaching the verbal portions of the SAT and the ACT exams, and, as someone with lived experience of neurodivergence, I also mentor students in Executive Functioning and Study Skills while relating to their experiences first-hand. Over the past eight years, I've developed an instructional approach that balances encouragement with staying results-oriented. I devote time to learning about my students as individuals, because this builds trust and can help optimize learning outcomes. I see every tutoring session as a chance to influence my students' personal development, so I not only address academic content but also tie it to real-world skills and situations that my students encounter daily. When I am not on duty, you'll find me enjoying New York's independent bookstores, learning world languages, and finding my next favorite vegan dish.
