Krisha Advani

I was born and raised on Long Island where I attended Herricks High School before attending college at NYU. I graduated with honors from NYU with a major in Psychology and a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies. I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University. While at NYU, I became interested in child development and mental health. To gain more experience working with children and adolescents, I worked at multiple tutoring centers focused on teaching students reading and math skills. This experience taught me to adapt my teaching style to address each student’s individual strengths and areas for growth. While group tutoring proved to be effective for some students, I found that 1-on-1 tutoring allowed for a more individualized approach tailored to each student and what they needed to focus on. I use this adaptive approach at TestTakers to tailor my approach to match individual learning styles. I believe that students learn best when you're on their team and show them that you're rooting for their success. My favorite part of tutoring is watching students gain confidence in subjects and feel more prepared to approach different problems. In my free time I love reading, hanging out with my friends and family, and baking!
