Noah Goldstein
Test Prep Tutor
I was born and raised in Philadelphia (go birds) and attended college at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude with a degree in psychology. My interest in Psychology originated from my desire to understand how people think, tackle challenges, and create change.
This interest in how the mind works informs my tutoring style. Every student is different and learns in different ways, so I cannot take the same approach with each student and expect it to work the same way. Tutoring is a collaboration between the tutor and the student, and my goal is to provide the skills and strategies necessary for the student to walk into the test fully equipped and confident. Anxiety and fear of failure can inhibit mental processing, especially during learning or during a test. My students understand that the SAT is not purely testing knowledge, but testing whether a student knows how to take the SAT, and use that to their advantage in the room.
Professionally, my background is in tech and consulting. After graduating from Penn, I moved to San Francisco to work at Google and meet a very cool lady who has now been my wife for the past 10+ years. At Google, I worked on their Legal Operations team, supporting the daily operations of a ~1,000 person legal department. The most important aspect of the job was teaching and communication. From Google, I moved to Deloitte and performed management consulting for legal departments across the world. In project management, communication is key, as is evaluating and identifying risks and weak points in order to ameliorate them before they become problems.
After leaving consulting, I moved my life in a new direction. In addition to tutoring, I now run a BBQ catering business called Bui’s BBQ and work with a non-profit on affordable housing research and development. When not cooking or tutoring, I am most likely watching something funny on TV or being disappointed by the Philadelphia Flyers.
